Digital Marketing Communications

Engage. Keep it Relevant. Keep it Simple.

Marketing used to be simple

We used traditional media and standard methods

We used traditional media and standard methods.  TV, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines - all targeting specific demographics.

Everyone tareted the same demographic.  25-54.

We never thought that a 25 year old has nothing in common with a 54 year old.  So the same message was a waste.

We created images.  Music.  Movement.  We integrated the theme in all media.  We used very high frequency.  To ensure the consumer "got" our brand.

We added Direct Marketing elements – Mail.  Telemarketing.  Email.  “We touched” consumers weekly with irrelevant Emails.

We watched three Networks.  Reruns on Cable.

Entertainment is one to one today. Personal
Entertainment was a family affair

Now we communicate with one consumer at a time

What is engagement

·        To  attract or please
·        To hold attention
·        To bind with or choose to become involved with

Engagement is essential marketing today.

The conversation.  The connection.  Facebook.  Blogs.  YouTube.  Forums.  Texting.  Mobile.  Messaging varies for Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y and Millennials.

Many consumers WANT to engage with companies and brands they are interested in.
Go to where your customers, voters, listeners, viewers, constituents are
·        join their groups
·        participate in their conversations
·        contribute to their communities.

The Obama marketing team is brilliant in it's use of "engagement marketing"

Some credit the team with pioneering the internet age of social media marketing.

Many think that "being on Facebook and Twitter is marketing."
